Data visualisation exploring Moocs from across the EU. bITjAM have been working with partners across the EU on a project called Destiny, an Erasmus+ funded project to explore whether Massive Open Online course (Moocs) provides a way to improve transversal skills amongst people seeking work across the EU.
WHAT WE DID
The first stage of the project involved bITjAM gathering and analysing data from Open Education Europa to get a snap shot of type of Moocs available including data on subject areas, language and specific features (videos, lecture notes etc). We developed a small programme that scraped the data and then cleaned and merged this data with information from other sources such as Facebook shares per Mooc.
The visualisation of the Mooc data was completed using Tableau Public and the results can be seen here on beta.bitjam. The data visualisation is fully interactive so you can explore the data in more detail. Please get in touch with Carl Plant to discuss the data visualisation or the Erasmus+ project further. The data visualisation will form part of a larger report on the application of Moocs to improve transversal skills amongst people seeking work across the EU.
