Proud to be a B Corp™
Bespoke software research and development consultancy Bitjam Ltd has recently announced its certification as a B Corporation (or B Corp), joining a growing group of companies reinventing business by pursuing purpose as well as profit.
Bitjam Ltd has been certified by B Lab, the not-for-profit behind the B Corp movement, as having met rigorous social and environmental standards which represent its commitment to goals outside of shareholder profit.
The B Corp certification addresses the entirety of a business’s operations and covers five key impact areas of Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and Customers. The certification process is rigorous, with applicants required to reach a benchmark score of over 80 while providing evidence of socially and environmentally responsible practices relating to energy supplies, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity and corporate transparency. To complete the certification, the company will legally embed their commitment to a purpose beyond profit in their company articles.
Bitjam is now part of a community of over 3,800 businesses globally that have certified as B Corps. The B Corp community in the UK, representing a broad cross-section of industries and sizes, comprises over 450 companies and include well-known brands such as The Guardian, innocent, Patagonia, Teapigs, and brewery pioneers Brewdog.
Recent attention on the software industry makes Bitjam’s B Corp certification a notable step and signals a shift towards greater accountability and transparency in the sector.
There are currently over 500 certified B Corps in the UK and over 3,800 worldwide. Other IT industry B Corps, include Evergreen Life, Happiful and Patients Know Best.
What does being a B Corp mean to Bitjam?
We are delighted with our certification. At Bitjam, we put social impact at the forefront of everything we do.
Bitjam has strong ethical values and we are adept at utilising technology for social good. Our dedicated team works side by side with fantastic clients on projects that benefit communities.
We are focused on sustainability. Our policies shout about it, our office is in a high tech environmentally friendly space, we work with a world-leading 'green' university.
MD, Carl Plant is thrilled to be heading up the Bitjam team as we gear up for new innovative contracts and consultations this coming year.
“I’m driven by the desire and understanding that digital technology can improve the lives of people. I see lots of companies who only see health tech as a commercial opportunity and you can see the effect that has on the products when they don’t achieve the desired outcomes. I believe [Bitjam] finds the balance between creating a strong business while achieving good outcomes for society.” This ethos is fully lined up with BCorps mission to balances purpose and profit.
With this certification, we have already opened the door to other like-minded organisations, and can’t wait to see what the future holds.
